Cristóbal Matarán López holds a Ph.D. in Economics (2021) from Rey Juan Carlos University, where he received the highest grade of Summa Cum Laude for his doctoral dissertation titled The Austrian School of Madrid in the Context of Economic Doctrines, written under the supervision of Dr. Jesús Huerta de Soto. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Jaén (2012), where he also earned a university expert diploma in Accounting, Finance, and Public Sector Economics. Additionally, he completed the Master’s Degree in Austrian School Economics at Rey Juan Carlos University (2014) and the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training at the European University of Madrid (2019). In the institutional sphere, he is closely linked to the academic community as a board member of the Jesús Huerta de Soto Ballester Foundation.
After beginning his professional career in the private sector in the fields of banking and legal services, he redirected his career toward teaching and research. He currently serves as a professor at the University of Las Hespérides and as an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication at the European University of Madrid, where he teaches courses on economic theory and the history of economic thought. Additionally, he collaborates as an associate professor with Francisco Marroquín University and has joined the faculty of the Master’s Program in Austrian Economics.
In the field of research, he serves as Associate Editor of Procesos de Mercado: Revista Europea de Economía Política, published by Unión Editorial. His academic work focuses on Austrian economic thought, its dialogue with other schools of thought, and major theoretical debates both within and outside the field; he has completed a doctoral research fellowship at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) in London. He is the author of the book The Austrian School of Madrid (Unión Editorial, 2024) and regularly participates as a speaker at international academic conferences and specialized summer schools.
